Feger conquers MARS stop at Kankakee County Speedway
Jason Feger returned to the driver’s seat of his Hoker Trucking No. 25 Late Model on Friday afternoon for the MARS Late Model Championship opener at Kankakee County Speedway (Kankakee, Ill.).
After a slow start to the evening in time trials, Feger secured his spot into the main event with a fifth-to-second showing in his heat. Regaining the lead from Kevin Weaver on the sixth circuit of the feature as he made the high-side work, Jason rolled to his fourth win of the season and 16th career MARS victory, which came ahead of Ryan Unzicker, Logan Nickerson, Mike Mataragas, and Kyle Hammer. He pocketed $5,000.
For another $5,000-to-win MARS Late Model Championship event on Saturday at Charleston Speedway (Charleston, Ill.), Jason’s fifth-place finish in his heat pinned him on the seventh row for the Graves 40 A-Main. Despite an early charge up to sixth, Feger suffered a flat tire after contact with a competitor, forcing him to pit for a replacement. He salvaged a 13th-place finish from the tail.
On Sunday at Adams County Speedway (Quincy, Ill.), Feger laid down the second-fastest lap in his time trial group before placing first in his heat. Chasing race-long pacesetter Ryan Unzicker to the checkers in the 40-lap feature, Jason recorded a runner-up finish with Tommy Sheppard Jr. coming in third.
Jason is currently second in the latest MARS Late Model Championship point standings.
